I’m still on 12 inch squares. Don’t know when I’ll stop. Maybe never. Maybe tomorrow. Whenever seems right.
I still like the watercolour painting done earlier of this view. Although the original is sold, I decided the print is perfect reference for me to base a new acrylic painting on.
Firstly I spent a long time looking through the Fauve books I borrowed from the library. I like looking at the brush strokes, the colours, the subject and so on. Nobody had a moonlight like this one but I used some of the ways they put colours together, in my own way. The comments I’ve had to date are ‘Van Gogh’ although I didn’t think so.
This is based on the view when the full moon is rising and the reflections are magic. The colours are extraordinary and so many variations of ‘dark night’. It’s not just grades of black when you really take the time to look.
I might do a bigger one yet – when I’m over 12″ squares.
