TUESDAY JULY 31ST.

We did stacked up books today, as a way of learning perspective. One has much to consider with these setups. It matters if things are lining up actually. If you observe where one book cuts in behind or in front of another, like pieces of a puzzle, then you will have a very pleasing sketch. You can see how differently each person approaches their subject, and all of them work.

Then because it was a fine day though chilly, we walked through Ivanhoe Park, around through the bowling green to sketch the odd little cottage on the hill. Here was a chance to put our ‘book observations’ into practice. I must admit everyone handled this well considering the rather odd front extension which seems to defy all the rules. It’s remarkable how useful a tree can be!

Most of the colour was added at Cafe La Bas, where we were thrilled to see some of the sketches we’d donated months ago, being displayed. They look great. They seem to be by Ethna, Elaine and Erin. Have I missed anyone. Go check them out.
