Everybody arrives and greets each other and awaits the arrival of freshly made tea or coffee. In a few moments the 3 tiered cake stands make their entrance. Wow. It’s always an exciting moment.

We have a quick lesson on how to see everything as shapes and how they relate to each other, followed by a demo on layering your 5 or 6 key colours of Watercolour pencil.

Then it’s time to get started with your first lines and see what happens! Everyone has a completely different style and we love seeing how everyone treats their sketch.

This is Travel Sketching. Take a minute to observe, have your kit ready – put anything not needed away – get the sketch down fast – your flight maybe departing any moment!  You can add colour later. Provided you get good lights and darks being accurate won’t matter.

Quickly sign and date it and give it a title and maybe some notes. You’ll enjoy that later.

This is about catching the moment. Your moment. Your memory.

Time flies and everyone realises they haven’t eaten much. But taking the rest home is just fine and everybody does.

More next time on Tuesday October 30th.

Erin – I love attending the sketch your cake every month. I get to practice my sketching, enjoy the company of other “sketchers” and have a lovely afternoon tea. There are no set rules – we all have a go – and it works – much to the suprise of everyone – especially beginners.
