Travel Sketching Week 1. Let’s get started.

New classes. New faces. New Sketch program. Welcome to some fun everybody. Whichever weekly class you’re in, we like to start with flowers trees and nature.

A gentle easing in for new and regular sketchers. We are focussing on our foundation skills. Observation of shape, and observation of colour.

In Ivanhoe Park we sketch a leafless gum – could well be green by the end of the week – tall and flowing. You learn to work quickly. First looking for it’s intrinsic shape. What makes this tree different from the next tree. Now look for the colours using just 3.

Time is always limited it seems so let’s sketch whatever we can wherever we happen to be. Of course we all know there’s a great cafe waiting for us to relax and share what we’ve done with the others. This week an old favourite, Belgrave Cartel.

Take a look.
