Sketching Week 2. Valentines, Ellipses & Landscapes.

After those very forgiving flower setups in Week 1, our Sketchers could be forgiven for thinking it wouldn’t be too difficult this week.

Seeing the Valentines Cake High Teas on both tables could lull you into thinking so. But look again. How many ellipses can you see.

For the more advanced Sketchers it was the 3 tiered cake stand and the newer sketchers would deal with a single cake stand. But there’s more.  At least 3 cups of tea added more ellipses to both still lifes.

Observing the different sizes makes all the difference. Everyone began to work it out. Colour combos were noted and the finished sketches told a lovely story. Romantic? As romantic as 6day old cupcakes can be.

Next it was composition.  How do you know how to compose the elements in your sketch? We had some easy to remember formulas we talked about.  Looking for use of colour and getting a focus.  The pathway through Gilbert Park was an excellent example to see what we’d been talking about.

Foundry 53 was our cafe this week and here the brief is to sketch what’s around you. What makes this place different from other places. Can you capture that?  Great work this week everybody. The sketches will speak for themselves.
