Sketching Week 4. Rocks and Sea

Week 4 and what a week it was.  From sunshine and clear days to wild wind and rain on others.  But we got the job done and came up smiling.

Rocks and the sea were our subjects with a lot of chat about composition. That business of bringing your eye to the focus you want.  Every successful artwork, photo, graphic etc works because composition has been considered. That’s we need to consider too.

This was the first week using watercolour for our New Sketcher classes. We begin with wet paint and clear colour and how to layer over a sketch. Keep it simple. Let the paint do its magic.  By starting a warm up sketch of rocks and throwing down one colour over another, we built up a stronger focus in the foreground as a frame. This would lead your eye in. Softer colour behind would take us to the focus.

Everyone so enjoyed sketching pleinaire by the sea. Just one class sketched through a rainy cafe window but still managed to create an excellent seascape sketch.  So do enjoy seeing what our classes have produced this week. More fun next week.
