Sketching Week 6. Term 3. Looking Uphill

A big week for all.

New Sketchers have begun their Monday classes and with Toni’s guidance this week, on the first of the foundation skills – how to see.  Some excellent first sketches were produced as you will see.

For our other classes this week it’s been very challenging but very rewarding.

Oh no, uphill perspective! I can’t do that!  Oh yes you can and yes you did.

It’s easy to be overcome by the enormity of the view or vista. But hey, remember we simply find our eye level, observe the big shapes (ie road is a shape, and both sides of the road are shapes and even the sky makes a shape.) One step at a time as we always do.

Before long your jigsaw falls into place.

You’ll see some lovely work here from this week which I think surprised some of you. We were using minimal colour around the focus rather than filling in everything. In fact you’ve made the most wonderful progress from where you began to here!

When you see them all together there’ll be many sounds of approval.

Check out all the week’s sketches here.

I love the photos of sketchers on the street, deep in thought and practice. I wish I had been there for the Looking Uphill class. Such a difficult concept. Congratulations on such wonderful sketches and on your tuition Erin

  2. Thanks for your very kind comments Alissa,
Everyone really excelled this week. The challenge was difficult but by really studying the scene, they could do it. If you find one in Melbourne to do for yourself, we’ll have a look when Im there Sept 25!!!
