Week 2 and we became followers of fashion. Our Regular classes found 2 displays of summer clothing on the Studio floor.
What is this? You could see the puzzled looks.
An outfit laid out for chaps and another for the girls.
What are we learning this week? To really see those shapes and how to fit them onto your page. Like a jigsaw puzzle. A good exercise too in using patterns and stripes.
Then to Tommy Bahama fashion store on The Corso. If you love colour you’ll be inspired by the way they colour coordinate their displays. Turquoise with watermelon, lemon with grass green. Sky blue with dusky pink. I want it all!! Yummy patterns and fresh linens perfect for Summer in Sydney. And the well dressed display models didn’t move at all.
Lunch and last sketch was from New Brighton Hotel. This meant we could get a quick sketch of palm trees and the burnt orange store exterior across the way, between mouthfuls of nachos or pizza – and it goes without saying – coffee! Although some are rewarding themselves with a beer or wine.
New Sketchers for week 2 were looking at round shapes, keeping whites top and sides and pressing those darks in behind. Yummy round cup cakes were our subject. One new sketcher did her first beautiful hibiscus.
Out on location it was simple tree shapes using 3 colours. With these you’re learning to make all the trunk colours you’ll need. Touch of green here and there and it’s done.
Then cafe sketching. A great chance to study those elipses again. Round round round. No pointy corners.
Another exciting week and some great sketches to show for it.
