We decided to run a Travel Sketching course just before Christmas, for teens who’d finished school for the year, and were keen to learn the skills of sketching.
Over 3 days Atsuko their tutor took them through the first ‘how to see’ steps, comparing shape against shape, then out on location as though they were travelling, to sketch something around them, and completing the lesson in a cafe – as we love to do. They took to this like ducks to water. At this age there are no ‘unlearnings’ or preconceived ideas, so they are very happy to let loose and do what you say and what they feel.
Interestingly, a lot of imagination comes into their sketches, which become a combination of what’s in front of them with embellishment. They work beautifully. Colour was used very well, and the water brush got a good workout to great effect.
Congratulations to everyone on the course, you did stunningly. And to Atsuko who so carefully guided her students from first steps to now happy and confident sketchers. Give yourselves a pat on the back.
Take a look at their 3 days of fun and learning.
