Week 9 Term 1. Seeing Shape

Week 9 already! However when we tutors look at the progress you have all made starting back at week one, it’s incredible.

Our New Sketchers have become very competent at all those core skills and ready now to step up to General classes and continue the journey.

General Classes. A little surprise for you to be sketching motor vehicles!

In fact they are very much part of your sketching world. Think about vehicles you might see in Vietnam, or Cuba or Morocco. How integral to your sketch they are!  Suddenly you’ve discovered what personality they bring to your work and who’d have thought traffic at a roundabout could be such a great subject. They’re a box. A shape – like everything. Look for that and you have a start.

New Sketchers had the bright colours and shapes of fresh fruit and vegetables. Intrinsic shape is what we’re observing. A lemon for example has a particular, shape, as does an apple, an onion and so on. We may be using quick simple lines but get these right and you know exactly what it is.

Beautiful sketches from everyone. Take a look and feel very proud. Well done.
