Week 4 Term 2.Things that ‘Go Away’

Every week we set you a few more challenges in sketching. For week 4 it was first watercolours for New Sketchers and ‘Things going away’ for General classes.

We’ve talked about planning your page and thumbnails a lot this week. That’s because without getting some idea of what the simple shapes are and how they fit, you are guessing how your sketch will turn out. Take ownership of what you want. Plan your thumbnails and lose the fear. We want clear confident lines and simple colour applied.

In watercolour you have discovered how to keep your colours clean and mixing occurs on the page by putting one colour over another- that’s layering. By golly you did the same with wc pencils. One colour over another. Now you see the connection.

Keep your darks down the centre and white tops and sides white. This is the clue to getting your sketch to pop.

And no need to worry about matching the colours in nature to the last green. Sometimes you may want to play with other colours dropped over each other. Love the results and you’re having a really good time doing it.

That’s very much our concept. Enjoy yourself. Allow yourself to be pleased with what you’ve sketched. No one is judging anything. Feel the freedom.
