What great Travel Sketchers you’ve all become.
It’s a great thrill for me to see all your work each week. Me sitting under a grape vine in Trausse – Minervoise and you wrapped up warmly sketching in the streets of Manly.
The way we approach a Travel Sketch is a very different one from your usual art class. You’ll have learned how to be minimal from your very first lesson.
Seeing what’s in front of you. No photos. just your impression as you alone see it.
How to hold your pen to get the fastest line. How to hold your wcolour pencils sideways to get the best coverage.
How to use simple big stokes with your brush.
Minimal sized paint set
Minimal number of Wcolour pencils.
No black browns or greys.
Layer your colours for high speed effect.
Drop paint over another colour.
All done before most people have set their easels up.
We certainly find all the above vital, when you are traveling.
Sue C. my Sydney student, with me in France finds this so.
You arrive at a fascinating place. Stand where you are in the shade and won’t get flattened by a Deux Chevaux.
Make some thumbnails and get cracking.
All done in a very short time. Now where is a great place for coffee?
One week to go of Term 2 and a fun last day for every class.
Do take a look at the classes we offer next term. A few changes for you.
On with the show.
