Week3.Term4. Colour Washes & People

EHS Sydney October 29 ’16

Both New and General classes stepped up again this week, only our third week.

To be starting watercolours when you’ve never used them before is very exciting. But as you began to discover this week, I’ve developed a very simple way to use them. No need to match what you see and struggle to make a colour. We teach you to layer your colours one over the other and keep the impression fresh. You’re loving the look. Your tutors are so proud of you.

‘People in Conversation’ was our theme for General classes. Again you excelled. Take a good look at any group around you and create your shapes. Get the line of the body. Get the action and movement in as few strokes as you can. Lots of colour. Big slabs of it. Forget about keeping in the lines. Just let go. Use paint or pen to sketch, colour your background before or after. So many new ways to get your people in conversation story told. And you did.

EHS MELBOURNE.  This week was also the first for our sketchers trying watercolour. Their subjects were rock shaped with colour dropping, and trees in the park.

EHS AUCKLAND. Take a look at what Tony’s 2 Studios were up to this week.

EHS TOKYO. Fantastic to see Atsuko with her first students – the flower sketch.

I have been tremendously enjoying your posts ever since I “found” you! I love the creativity I’m seeing. It reinforces that watercoloring is different for each artist, and it’s all beautiful! How I would love to be part of the groups I see in your photos!

  2. Hi CarolAnne, That’s very kind of you. That is our philosophy too. We each have our own way of expressing our creativity, so embrace it and be free. Where do you live? I will be doing a Sketch Holiday in Boston & New England in Sept ’17, if that was of interest. I’d love you to join us.
