EHS Sydney. Week4 Term4 November 5 ’16
General Sketchers this week have been sketching at the Star Carwash. Not for us pretty beaches and vistas. Nope. We like getting on the rubber gloves, grabbing the bucket and getting stuck into sketching. What a hilarious time everyone had. Who’d have thought cleaning cars could be be so much fun. And the sketches show it. Some look as though they’ve been through the wash as well!! Our city class concentrated on sketching with paint and added mediums. Certainly keep you free.
New Sketchers were having fun again with watercolours. Back to nature with stone, rocks, trees. Sketchers worked with and without black pen and used our ‘colour dropping’ technique very successfully.
Our Evening Sketchers worked at high speed getting their trees down before the light faded, on a glorious evening and even managed a fast ‘paint sketch’ of the Manly ferry. You’ll be amazed at what our sketchers have achieved in just the 2nd week of using watercolours. Congrats to all students in all classes. You constantly amaze us.

EHS TOKYO from Atsuko
It’s only 4 months after I came back to Tokyo, I’m really happy that I could start my classes so soon. I’m gradually building my classes along with adjusting to culture, climate and so on here. One needs a lot of ‘permissions’ to have classes I’ve found.
At the moment, I currently allow people to join even one class, and some then want to join the next class.I hope they’ll spread the network of potential students. Also It seems that my classes are taking two directions. One is learning sketching techniques and the other is travelling in Tokyo. So I’ve started a General class, for free style sketching. In the other class my role will be as tour guide and a sketch tutor.
There is a lot to discover here in Tokyo, and I’m really enjoying discovering new spots. I have quite a lot of interest in joining both the above. One of my initial ideas was to have classes where I’d show expats how to get to know and enjoyTokyo more, and do so through sketching. I’m already finding that Japanese locals are very interested too. It’s an interesting adventure!
EHS AUCKLAND from Tony
This week was street perspective taking into account winding streets, roads and paths – really getting that detail in the foreground and leading the eye through to the ever important middle ground and then soft colours and simplicity of background.
Friday class in the city is one point perspective with all wonderful old villas of Ponsonby.Sat New Sketchers morning class has ‘ intro to Watercolour’.Sat General afternoon class is doing street perspective.
EHS MELBOURNE from Jeanette
New Sketchers were trying watercolours too. Being Melbourne Cup week meant sketch subjects were already a given. Beautiful hats are gorgeous to sketch. A little crisp white wine – and cake.
