EHS SYDNEY. DEC 10 ’16
Another awesome week. It just gets better and better. When my tutors send each classes pics I marvel at how far our students have come. Not just New Sketchers but General Sketchers too.
Travel Sketching is reaching new levels in our use of line and colour and imagination. We try anything. No holds barred and the results are so so exciting.
Our sketches are not clones of each other. Not all looking in one direction. Although we tutors know the plan for the week, each group goes where we’ll best interpret the technique or focus. Each student finds their own version of what we’re looking for. Use of colour is a choice. Paper is a choice. Brushes are a choice. Everything is their choice. Exactly as it is when you travel. Or if you’re in you’re own space. Pick something which appeals to you and go for it.
This week Our New Sketchers were reminding themselves of the way to get dimension in still life sketches. Then carry on doing similar on location. Fruit and vegetables are a lovely subject to try techniques out. Then a market or place where fresh fruit and veg are displayed. And pour the colour on. Why not. And remember all the tricks we teach you to get incredible effects. Yum.
General Sketchers were recording old and iconic buildings. Everything from the butchers, to the laundry and all in between. One sketcher simply sketched ‘magic’ – she’d seen a display in a shop window – just wonderful. That’s imagination. Chagal here we come.
So take a look at our student’ sketches from this week’s and enjoy. Check our website for classes near you.

EHS MELBOURNE Week 10 Term 4 ’16
The classes this week were keen to make their own Christmas cards. So armed with pre cut blank cards, lots of paint and cutouts, glitter and glow, everyone had a gorgeous time as an end of year activity.
Jeanette is hosting an extended class next week for those who have missed any during term. We are nice people indeed.
EHS AUCKLAND. Week 8 Term 4 ’16
For General Sketchers, feet and hands were the order of the day. After some simple anatomy to understand the shapes – everyone thoroughly enjoyed studying their own hands/feet/hairy legs/shoes etc and sketching actually what they could see. Always a very interesting exercise.
Using different mediums to get effects with fantastic result – kraft paper ,white gel pens, sepia pens even nail varnish and glitter to get great results.
Finishing off sketching at Devonport chocolates – well it is Christmas!
NewSketchers. Our Ponsonby group sketched from the top of the Bishops residence with some amazing views of Auckland Harbour. Some lovely results, taking in page planning and composition. And of course how to apply colour. Thanks Tony.
Happy Sketching till next week.
