The last week of term 2 has resulted in many great adventures, and plenty of excellent sketching. Everything comes together, and New Sketchers are able to put all their new skills together and get out and about and capture the impressions of the day. General sketchers had some amazing adventures and sketched the whole way…take a look!
Tuesday New Sketchers. Blue Mountains.
A finale at yuletide at The Fairmont resort, Leura. Christmas in July is celebrated in The Mountains by many, so we sketched some decorations, wished each other Merry Christmas and then ate cake! Afterwards we headed out onto the grounds to enjoy the ducks, lakes and horses.
Tuesday general. Manly.
A beautiful winter day at New Leaf Nursery. So many wonderful and wacky things to sketch, but first coffee, chai and home baked biscuits in the sun. We then sketched chickens as they posed for us, plants in boats, an old truck, a piano and dancing shoes. It was a great way to finish our 10 week term term together, something for everyone!
Tuesday Evening. New Sketchers. Manly.
We met at Papi Chulo for supper and everyone had sketched during the week, such a lovely visual prompt to tell our stories. Then we crossed the road to Crinitis for dessert and coffee! And some portrait sketching from magazines and personal photos to practice proportions..lovely company, thank you ladies.
Wednesday. General. The Rocks.
We started by meeting in Chinatown where we enjoyed vegetarian yum cha. A few dumpling sketches, capturing the essense of the yum cha restaurant and we took a walk through Dixon St to The Chinese Gardens. The rain came and the day grew bleak yet the giant koi, ibis, the pavilions and the unique vegetation and garden design kept us happy sketching! Was a wonderful day for end of term. Thankyou to The Rocks General class. Its been a delight! Anna xxx
Wednesday. New Sketchers. Manly.
Once again it rained !! After continuous line sketches and some interior perspective work we completed a corner of the studio in water colour. It was great to see everyone’s confident use of colour and excellent drawing . .. all so different 🙂 Then through the worsening weather we arrived at the wharf to find ferries on the opposite side of the wharf. So it was the bald man and lots of chocolate to warm us as we drew the ferries from our table in the warm and dry .
Some experiments with wet paper and pencil as well dry aquarelle and watercolours. An excellent end to a fabulous term.
Thursday. General. Blue Mountains.
We met at Katoomba Train Station with a loaded opal card, ready for an adventure. A sketch of the signal box, capturing the essence of the station, and then our train arrived. Vignettes were in order, a capture of the train ride, the lights, the views… Then we arrived at Mount Victoria. The highest point. It was a divine sunny day, so we had our coffee and cake outside. We met plenty of friendly locals, and had a joyful time sketching away our day.
Thursday. General. Manly.
Ingleside turned on the winter sun as we sketched again in this nursery wonderland. We were spoilt for choice. With our sketching done we sat comfortably in the sun to add colour to our sketches. At one point you could have heard a pin drop. One of the sketchers said it’s just like when dessert comes out, the room falls silent. Creative bliss. Congratulations everyone on a great 10 weeks. See you next term. We’ve more surprises in store!
Thursday Evening. General. Manly.
Belgrave Cartel on a Thursday evening. So busy they told us we couldn’t sketch because they needed to turn over tables!
No problem! We’re fast sketchers, we can multi task, eat and sketch. Watch us!
Friday. New Sketchers. The Rocks.
Capturing the essence of The Rocks and the roof top pub! A grand finale for the new sketchers Rocks class. Well done. Its been a joy teaching you all.
Friday. General. Manly.
We had two honorary sketch members today at New Leaf, Rosie the sweet kelpie cross and Vera the feisty octogenarian and Donna’s mum. We gravitated to the little sun drenched lounge area and everyone excelled themselves with loose, vibrant, quirky sketches that told the story of this fabulous unconventional venue.
Friday. New Sketchers. Manly.
Long Reef Headland and Fisherman’s Beach, a wonderful location to sketch for our Week 10 Adventure class. There was lots to practice here with this stunning coastal vista -composition, looking for main shapes and layering colour. A delicious lunch at the golf club, sketching the view and then coffee with dessert. Yum! Well done everyone. You’ve graduated from EHS Beginners Sketching and you’re now ready for ‘Big School’ (our General Sketch Classes)
Enjoy the holidays and we hope to see you again next term.
Saturday. General. Manly
Such a relaxed, casual venue for our final sketch class at New Leaf. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome and allowing us to treat their lounge space as our home from home. We’ll be back !
Saturday. New Sketchers. Manly.
After some warm up people sketches we experimented with aquarelles on wet paper . Then it was off to the wharf where it was sunny but very cool so we drew from inside the Wharf hotel completing sketches of Our chosen subject .. ferries ..in watercolour and of course jotting or should I say scribbling down our lunch before consumption. An excellent end to our 10 weeks .
Thats all for this Term. Bookings for next Term are now open. We do hope you will join us.
