Yes you CAN sketch people

Week 4 Term1. February. 2023

Sketching people can truly be fun. No faces required. Just shape and form. Nobody moves.

Our Wednesday group asked about typefaces to use as titles on Journal notes. So before we began People, we made our own alphabets in varying ways plus some embellishments to really personalise them. Somehow I forget the ‘W’ in the Roman Serif group. Ah well. I added it on the end.

The little mannequin was met with much delight along with a sheet of ‘sausage people’ to help see proportion.
It was also a gorgeous sunshiney day and everything in the garden was lovely.
We only had one wood mannequin today. But wait till later in the week!

Also managed to do some ‘Cafe people’ - sitting down at a table and with added clothing. We loved this and got very creative with spotted or striped tops, shorts or skirts, even stilettos.

Friday was one of those days of torrential rain. Almost non stop. Our sketchers from Lismore and Bangalow managed to make it through, with a pit stop to pick up breakfast - croissants, hot cross buns and sweet muffins. Wow we were in! By the time I got my camera up, a fair bit had disappeared.

We were in the upstairs Studio today so very safe from the rain.
Surprise surprise. There on the table were TWO mannequins. Another joined our lonely one, gifted from one of the students and gratefully received. They were very happy together.

Now time for some figure sketching. We were observing the form and angles of the mannequins and taking over 2 pages if needed. What a great way to sketch people and get proportions. And they don’t move!! Till we decide anyway.

Another excellent learning week. Same time same place for Week 5 next week.

Have a great sketching week everyone. Love our sketching lives.
